Tomoka Honey Spiced Rum

Originally named the Arethusa, Tomoka was the name Captain Bill McCoy gave to his second and most famous Schooner (derived from a Scots word for skimming stones reflecting the ships speed). McCoy moved with his family to America and eventually became a shipbuilder near Daytona Beach in Florida where he learned how to create and improve a vessel. Once McCoy turned to rum-running, he needed a vessel that could move quickly, evade the US Coast Guard and carry large quantities of rum from the Caribbean and whisky from Canada. 

McCoy made several notable alterations to the ship including installing hidden cargo bays and a machine-gun nest in the bow of the ship which he would use to fend off the Coast Guard and other ‘enterprising individuals’. 

The Tomoka rum features local Scottish honey giving it a rich, sweet taste and aroma which is complemented by a spice mix of clove, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla.

The Tomoka rum is best served with ginger ale and a slice of lime or in a spicy and sweet twist on a mai tai.
